These small-scale systems can be rapidly deployed and scaled as needed. In industrial sectors, desalination provides high-purity process water for electronics manufacturing, pharmaceutical production, and power plant cooling.

Looking ahead, the desalination technologie market will be shaped by brine management and zero-liquid discharge (ZLD). Current desalination plants return concentrated brine to the ocean, which can impact local marine ecosystems. Emerging technologies for brine concentration and salt recovery can produce solid salts for industrial use, eliminating liquid discharge. The market is also seeing advances in forward osmosis and membrane distillation, which promise even lower energy consumption. The desalination technologie market thus represents a critical tool for water security, combining civil engineering, materials science, and energy management to turn an abundant resource into life-giving water.
