  • Performance in Low-Light and Partial Shading: CIGS thin-film modules demonstrate lower temperature coefficients and superior energy yield under diffuse sunlight or partial shading compared to conventional silicon panels.

Manufacturing and Efficiency Evolution

Commercial CIGS cell efficiencies now routinely exceed 16–20% for modules, with laboratory cell efficiencies reaching over 23%. Manufacturing advancements, such as roll-to-roll co-evaporation and sputtering onto flexible polyimide or stainless steel substrates, continue to drive down production costs. However, competition from crystalline silicon and emerging perovskite-silicon tandem cells requires CIGS manufacturers to focus heavily on high-value BIPV integrations, durability enhancement against moisture degradation, and eco-friendly manufacturing processes that minimize hazardous waste during selenization.
